Neighbor-Good

PLEASE NOTE THE UPDATE: DUE TO THE GOVERNOR'S NEW STAY AT HOME ORDER, WHAT FOLLOWS BELOW HAS BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER REVIEW IN MID APRIL.

Welcome to the Neighbor-Good! What does this look like? Neighbors helping our most vulnerable neighbors in need. Individuals can support Volunteers of America to ensure that children and families, veterans, people with disabilities and seniors will have food and basic necessities during this time. We have partnered with Highland Center Ministries and Church for the Highlands to initiate a donation center for our programs. These donations will be sorted into food boxes that VOANLA staff will deliver to those we serve. What does this mean for you? We are looking for volunteers who are willing to receive and sort donations as they arrive.

Neighbor-Good will be managed by Volunteers of America of North Louisiana and Highland Center Ministries.

Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning 3/24/2020 from 12:30-4:30. We will have two time slots per day for sign-ups, 12:30-2:30 and 2:30-4:30.

In order to best protect each of you, we are limiting our volunteer capacity in each time slot to 5 individuals. Two of the five slots will be designated for receiving donations as they are dropped off and inventorying them, and three of the five time slots will be designated for sorting and boxing donated items.

Also, we want to take into consideration the following from the CDC’s website “Older adults (65 and older) and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19.” If you fall into either of these categories, we encourage you to stay home and stay healthy! If you are unable to volunteer, here’s how you can help from home.

Highland Blessing Dinner

Each Thursday, we are serving the Highland Blessing Dinner from the driveway in to go containers. We will be putting tables up outside the gym doors and as our guests come up we’ll give them their meal. Only volunteers will be able to come into the building. Volunteers are needed to come between 4:00 and to start giving meals out at 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Also, bags are needed for meal containers.
