In re: to Coronavirus

Here is the latest on what we are doing in light of COVID 19:

Now that Louisiana is in Phase 1 of reopening, churches are able to meet as long as attendance does not exceed 25% capacity of the room. In order to meet that requirement, we are moving Worship to the Sanctuary, which seats at least 2,000 and provides more than enough space for us to spread out at least six feet and every other pew. With that in mind, we will resume in person Worship on Sunday, May 31, at 11:00 am.

Before we begin meeting in-person and as we continue, we want to be sure all steps are being taken to ensure the safety of everyone who attends. What follows is a list of changes that will be in place for in-person Worship:

  • Entrance will only be through Sanctuary doors (Topeka entrance and ramp will be available for those unable to enter Sanctuary doors on Olive)

  • Distancing of at least 6 feet between worshipers (except for family units already living in the same house)

  • We will not pass the offering baskets. A dropbox will be located in the Sanctuary and our online site for offerings

  • Hand sanitizer will be available for all who enter and exit

  • Everyone will be required to wear a mask (can be removed for those doing Scripture readings, prayers, etc.)

  • Welcome and greeting time without hugs and handshakes

  • No congregational singing at this time

  • Communion will continue on the first Sunday of each month but served with proper distancing at stations throughout the Sanctuary

  • No nursery/childcare at this time

  • No in-person Sunday School until further notice

  • Restrooms will be limited to 2 people at a time

  • Transportation in the church van will be limited to four passengers at a time with distancing and masks required

Changes will be modified as needed according to CDC guidelines and monitored each week and as reopening phases change in Louisiana.

For those unable or not ready to attend in person at this time, we our live stream on our Facebook page at 10:55 am and archive the services here on our Worship page. You are invited to tune in and invite others to do so as well.

God has called a wonderfully diverse group of souls to this community of care and encouragement. We welcome all people into this fellowship -- just as they are, created by God. We affirm all in our common desire to be more like Jesus. The good news is that God has room at the table for persons of all ages, racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, educational, ability and economic levels, differing political leanings and regardless of past mistakes or bad decisions. We are all precious, but unfinished works of grace. Together we become the “beloved community” where we learn, heal, grow and serve together. God is painting a masterpiece here.
